September Issues

I look forward to these issues all year long. These are the ones that set the precedent for the rest of the year. With that being said year after year they get bigger and bigger. This year I believe they are at their biggest. The Vogue really is the size of a small textbook and has just about as many pages as one too. No matter how big they get I will always buy them. Fashion Magazines are one of my guilty little pleasures! All I need are these, a wonderful smelling candle, a glass of wine, and my comfy bed or couch. That is my equation to a perfect night in by myself!
I am more than thrilled that some of the trends that were big last year are making another appearance this season. The one I am most thrilled about is Oxblood or as we refer to it here in Starkville, Ms. Maroon! As a Mississippi State student this makes it very easy to find dresses and accessories in the color. The other two trends I am happy to see again are Leather and Fur. I am slowly investing in some statement fall pieces and plan on getting more after flipping through the gorgeous pages of these magazines.

Pork Chops With Apples and Garlic Smashed Potatoes

Last week Jay cooked dinner for our date night. This is only the second time he has cooked dinner and he found this recipe for Pork Chops with Apples and Garlic Smashed Potatoes on FoodNetwork.com. He did a wonderful job and I have to say I really did enjoy getting to relax and watch him cook instead of me. Since, this is dish was so good I decided I would share it with you!

Pork Chops with Apples and Garlic Smashed Potatoes:

Ingredients:
1 pound small fingerling potatoes
2 cloves garlic
Kosher salt
4 1/2-inch-thick boneless pork loin chops (5 ounces each)
2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage
Freshly ground pepper
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 large red onion, cut into 1/2-inch wedges
2 Granny Smith apples, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
3/4 cup apple cider
1/4 cup buttermilk

Directions:
1. Put the potatoes and garlic in a saucepan, cover with cold water and season with salt.
2. Cover and bring to a boil, then uncover and continue cooking until tender, about 15 minutes.
3. Cover and set aside.
4. Meanwhile, rub both sides of the pork chops with the sage, and salt and pepper to taste.
5. Heat a large cast-iron skillet over high heat, then add 1 teaspoon olive oil and sear the chops until golden on both sides, about 5 minutes total.
6. Transfer to a plate.
7. Wipe out the skillet and add the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil.
8. Add the onion and apples and cook over medium-high heat until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. 9. Season with salt and pepper and stir in the cider.
10. Return the chops to the skillet.
11. Cover and cook, turning once, until just cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes.
12. Drain the potatoes, reserving 1/4 cup liquid.
13. Return the potatoes to the pan; add the buttermilk and mash, adding cooking liquid as needed.
14. Season with salt and pepper. Serve with the pork chops, onion and apples.
15. Drizzle with the pan juices.
The original recipe can be found here.

Plush Heaven

I can never have enough pillows in my house, the more throw pillows the better. All different sizes, shapes, patterns, and colors. They seem to really make a house a home. Plus one of the best things about them is that if you are wanting to do a little update to your house new throw pillows is always a simple and fairly cheap way to go about it.

College: Back to School

I cannot believe that I will be starting my senior year of college today. Where have to past three years gone? I am  ready for it but at the same time it is bittersweet knowing that it is almost over. Since, it is August that means back to school shopping well don't worry I made you an easy list of essentials you will want for this school year. This list is only missing one more major thing that I need, scrubs. I start my internship tomorrow at a Physical Therapy Clinic here in the Starkville area. If you are going back to school I hope that you have a wonderful year!

Visions of Fall

I don't know about anyone else but I am ready for Fall to be here especially since this morning it felt like a nice cool autumn day on my way to work. Of course living in Mississippi it may feel like fall one day then the dead of summer the next but I am still ready. Fall to me means football (college and NFL), tall boots, scarfs, skinny jeans, warm colors, pumpkins, and cozy cool air. I have decided that fall just might be my favorite time of year. I really love all the fashion that it brings with it. Below are just a few things I have pinned on Pinterest that are causing this fall fever.

Home Bar Inspiration

Since, I turned 21 last year I have been wanting to have a wonderful fully stocked home bar. So far I have all the odds and ends for wine and a decanter but other than that I need a little more help. Here are some amazingly chic home bars that are inspiring me.

New Orleans Recap

- Saints Pre-season against the Kansas City Chiefs Friday night was wonderful. We didn't play that great but we were also using or second and third string. I cannot wait until the first game of this season against our rivals the Atlanta Falcons in the Superdome -
 - Obsessed with this man's hat! Superbowl ring baby!-

- Saturday consisted of a little shopping at the Shops at Canal Place, NOLA Motorsports Park, the "Red Dress Run", and Café Du Monde -
 - Gorgeous dress from my favorite designer BCBG Max Azria. Unfortunately, it was a little out of my budget for the weekend (sorry for the dressing room selfie but I had too) -
 - Lululemon quote outside their store in Canal Place -
 - Wine and a movie sounds amazing to me. The updated theatre in Canal Place will allow you to do just that -
 - NOLA Motorsports Park where the Go-Karts go up to 50mph. Of course this was Jay's idea but it was actually very fun -
 - "Red Dress Run" this is a 2 mile run but it is really more a pub/bar crawl. Jay and I did not make it in time to register but we still dressed up and enjoyed walking around seeing everyone else in their "Red Dress Run" attire -
 - Café Du Monde Beignets for dessert -

- Sunday we went to Sucre, brunch on Magazine Street, and toured the Garden District before we headed home -

 - Sucre for French Macaroons and a Chocolate Éclair both of which were to die for. I would recommend visiting here to anyone making a trip to New Orleans -
 - Brunch with Mimosas and Bloody Mary's don't mind if I do at Ignatius Eatery on Magazine Street -
